I'm always terrified when i handle compilations with 518 bands, timing 2
days and 2 nights, - but this time, thanks gods, Hoboken's
one, entitled Tiny Tunes vol 1 is somewhat homogeneous in its intentionts.
There are 21 Bands here featured (italian, but international for the most),
also seeing an old acquaitance of ours (read below for more.. editor's note),
for about 66 min. Black and white spartan artwork with a lesbo-erotic picture.
Principal genre is lo-fi, and the Vanishing
Point seem to be deep into the thing (between Sebadoh
and college rock in Weezeer-ish
vein), Wynona (sort
of docile Delgados),
Bosvelt (melancholics,
with friendly-electro temptations), Ibold Train (like if Ultravox
of Hiroshima Mon Amour arrived ten years later), crackling Slumber
and The Popper
Pop, Cracophonic
(with remindings of Elvis
Costello), The
Amazing Kilowatt (exquisitely bubble-gum pop), introverted Estobhan
(Kings Of Convenience might envy them), psychedelic Hoechst (with 6o's style
keyboards) and ultrasad Aerosoul. Rock of hard-core roots reckons Koogaphone
as its atomic propellings (kickassing as panthers, but with tiny keyboards),
Party Keller (some
noise veins), Jade (epical ones),
and Candyfloss
under phaser efx (just like Sundays
with 36 distortion guitar effects), Godsend (i can image them on
Mtv), Controluce

Sono sempre terrorizzato quando mi capitano tra le mani compilazioni con
518 gruppi che durano 2 giorni e 2 notti, vuole il cielo che questa della
Hoboken dal titolo Tiny
Tunes vol 1 sia abbastanza omogenea nella sua proposta. Le bands presentati
in questa sede sono ben 21 (ita e internazionali), con anche qualche vecchia
conoscenza (Vi rimando a più avanti per il colpaccio di scena, ehehehe
- nd Vono)
per il totale di 66 minuti e 25 sec. + o - e copertina b/n con retro filo
lesbo-erotico. Il genere cui i gruppi fanno maggiore riferimento in questo
cd è sicuramente il lo-fi, materia in cui sembrano brillare Vanishing
Point (tra Sebadoh
e college rock nella vena dei Weezeer),
Wynona (sorta di
docili Delgados),
Bosvelt (malinconici
con tentazioni electro-friendly), Ibold Train (come se gli Ultravox
di Hiroshima Mon Amour fossero venuti una decina di anni dopo), gli
scoppiettanti Slumber
e The Popper
Pop, Cracophonic
(con reminiscenze di Elvis
Costello), The
Amazing Kilowatt (squisitamente bubblegum pop), gli introversi Estobhan
(da fare invidia ai Kings Of Convenience), gli psichedelici Hoechst
(con tastiere sixties) e i tristissimi Aerosoul. Il rock di derivazione
hardcore riconosce qui i suoi propulsori atomici in Koogaphone
(incazzati come delle pantere, ma con delle tastierine da far sembrare un
organetto di Barberia uno strumento liturgico a canne), Party
Keller (con venature noise), Jade
(i più epici), gli ultra phaserati Candyfloss
(un po' come i Sundays
con 36 distorsori), i Godsend (me li vedo già su Mtv).
Il punto di contatto con l'ethereal e la new wave più oscura sono
Glisten (che mi hanno fortemente ricordato gli All About Eve), Controluce
(vicini al pop tecnologico e friendly), - poi, yrkomakino@gmail.comndk,
ci sono i miei My Violent Ego, guitar-driven
dreampop shoegaze, ma se avete sfogliato komakino dovreste già averne

Fredrik Kinbom,
in arte Frock,
rifulge di piena ispirazione romantica, suono vecchio liverpool con tagli
brit_pop + recenti e brasiliani, - chitarre acustiche ed elettriche on giri
davvero malinconici, batterie e percussioni, trombe e talvolta un violoncello
ad intrecciare il tutto. Belli pure i testi, molto poetici (i hear the
voices of mountain so clear, they say: hey, we will remain you'll see us
again), - sembra uscito fuori una rivisitazione e clima de Il Laureato
e quella Mrs Robinson, - la fuga e la ricerca di se stessi. - Progetto
solista (Fredrik a voce (bella voce), gtr, hammond e fregni vari), ma accompagnato
da una manciata di musicisti con cui ha registrato le 1o tracce di questo
splendido Frozen Jungle Entertainment, girando tra Svezia, Inghilterra
e Brasile. Un cd registrato con ogni crisma ed uscito sulla sua etichetta
I Like Records, - contenente gemme del tipo Coincidence Rocket
Ride, assolutamente trascinante, come anche gli handclaps e il ritornello
di Monday Adventure, - o la dichiarazione d'amore di Lagoa Wish,
- cadenzata, inebriante, o Turning Off the Telly at Dawn, - tutte
le carte in regola x guadagnarci sopra a bit of cash e attenzione
in giro. - Guardate, davvero consigliato, questa è indie, passione

shines brightly of a full romantic inspiration, old liverpool sound, with
brit-pop and brasilian cuts, - acoustic and electric guitars on melancholic
riffs indeed, drums and percussions, trumpet and sometimes a viola to interlace
the whole. Beautiful lyrics too, very poetic (i hear the voices of mountain
so clear, they say: hey, we will remain you'll see us again), - it seems
a sort of remake The Graduate soundtrack and that Mrs Robinson, -
a fudge and an introspection. One man project (Fredrik
at voice (beautiful one), gtrs, hammond and stuff), but accompanied by a
crew of musicians He recorded 1o tracks of this splendid cd with, Frozen
Jungle Entertainment, travelling from Sweden to Brasil to England. -
Very good production, released on His own record label I Like Records,
- containing jewels like Coincidence Rocket Ride, absolutely drifting,
like handclaps and chorus too on Monday Adventure, or the sweet declaration
of love of Lagoa Wish, swinging and enrapturing, - or Turning
Off the Telly at Dawn, - all perfect numbers deserving more attention
and little bit of dirty cash back ;-). Well dear komareaders, i warmly suggest
You to give a chance to this Music, this is indie, pure passion, - a reason
for running a fanzine. Fredrik

23-Ago-2002 3:39 PM - Artwork un pò tamarro x il minicd degli Etoile Filante di Trieste, distribuito dalla indie nostrana Aua rec, con in copertina Tim Roth di Four Rooms by Tarantino, effetto plastificato. Qui musica pop elettronica ma non troppo, quattro pezzi con derivazioni ambient e chillout, mix lo-fi, non direi curatissimi nella produzione dei campioni, ma piacevoli. Alla voce unicamente sulla traccia che apre, Eternity, c'è Laura Bussani, anche a keyb, - poi in line-up basso, casio e Csko alla voce sul pezzo di chiusura. Direi di migliore impatto e un passo avanti verso un'identità l'altro ep, + credibile, Emanuelle Sous Acide, 6 tracce: 1969 (Detroit 2o69), pure se tirato troppo x le le lunghe ha qlcs di buono erotomane (?), e se Bugs fosse di matrice + tossica, sporca e godesse di un mix migliore, capace di amalgamare il tiro, - si potrebbe qui toccare la coda della scia degli ultimi Primal Scream. - Cmq, pecca mi rimane il mix scarno mediocre, - e il cantato di Sono Come Tu Mi Vuoi, - in italiano, fa crollare tutto. All'orizzonte cover ed uscite per Nail Rec, Snowdonia e +. // Somewhat ugly artwork minicd for Etoile Filante, from Trieste, Italy, distributed by our local Aua rec, with Tim Roth acting in Tarantino's Four Rooms, plastic wrap fx. Here You find some electronic pop music, but not much, four tracks wandering over ambient and chill-out corners, lo-fi mix, - not an enough wide range of samples/loops, but likeble. Laura Bussani sings only on the opening song, Eternity, a good voice, playing keybs too, then there are bass, casio tone and mr. Csko at vocals on the final track too . I'd say that Emanuelle Sous Acide, one more 6 tracks ep, has got a better impact, and it's a step ahead toward an identity, more trustworthy. 1969 (Detroit 2o69), maybe it lasts too much, but it's got a good erotomaniac appeal (?), and if Bugs was strong of a more tossic, dirty attitude and of a better mixage able to better fuse everything, - they might touch the tail of recent Primal Scream. - Italian vocals on Sono Come Tu Mi Vuoi are terrible. - New realeases for more italian indies like Nail Rec, Snowdonia are to come in next months.

ovvero paesaggi di vallate con petti di pollo al burro nello sfondo.. un

un cd di 17 tracce (12+5) in tributo ai fasti che furono della coppia Alain

Pierre Melville (regista e attore che fece brillare con pochi film il
primo nel '67/'72, vedi Le
Samourai, di cui il booklet riprende una battuta). Disco piacevolissimo
di pop-wave furbo con retrogusto 6o's, speziato con elettronica/sampling
lounge, tavolini bassi monocolore plasitificati, poltrone puffo, microgonne,
Gainsbourg-ofilo,
tanto per citare un Nome francese che non conosce nessuno e fare bella figura.
Deluxe, a voce
e programming (ottimo su Paris Lisbonne e Krimi at the Kino),
poi duetta a suo pieno agio con una delle due Muse qui presenti, April
March, al secolo Elinore
Blake, californiana, ma francesizzata al midollo, su Ertzazophonie

fifteen italian dishes è l'uscita che reca questo marchio,
una compilazione di formazioni non allineate (- mica tanto, me
sembrano tutte postoroccke, ndk) tutte provenienti dall'Italia. Si inizia
col jazz_rock canterburiano dei Caboto per proseguire con le microwaves
(leggi bz, bzz, pzz, vrz, blip, unz, - ndk) di Autobam e 8brr
(Ikeda e Pansonic sono dietro l'angolo, ma in un'altra città)
e si incappa nello sghembo post rock di Almayer, Slope, Comfort,
Skrjabin Hc2, I Haven' T Seen A Yeti Yet. I Vonneuman
offrono la loro porzione di sperimentalismo alla causa degli Storm &
Stress, gli Abarthjour Floreale (- gli unici qui con pulzella
alla voce, ndk) sono una discreta inquietudine sonica,
gli Appaloosa una contrazione elettrica mentre i Lillayell
e Zero Tolerance For Silence si riconoscono in un conato Beefheartiano
e hanno tutti i dischi degli Us Maple. i Generoso Gallina
sono come un riassunto di quanto di storto (proprio storto, ndk) c'è
stato nella new wave, un bignami del dopo punk scritto da un bambino di
5 anni sulla carta della pizza (ma ch'avrà volutò dì?,
ndk (ma chi? Vono o i Generoso Gallina?,
ndk)). In chiusura ci sono i One
Dimensional Man (episodio + credibile?, ndk) con una bella incazzatura
noise che mi fa venire in mente gruppi come Jesus Lizard e Laughing
Hyenas. 15 Italian
Id ha quantomeno il merito di fare luce su realtà minori
Italia, anche se per dare un reale giudizio sulla qualità di ciascun

is small record label from Livorno, Toscana, and 15id:
fifteen italian dishes is a release under this mark, a compilation
featuring known and notsoknown indie bands (especially ranging under
post rock influences, k's note), everyone coming from different italian
towns. Let's start with Canterbury-ish jazz_rock of Caboto, then
it's time of Autobam and 8brr's microwaves (read bz, bzz,
pzz, vrz, bleep, - k's note), where Ikeda and Pansonic recalls
are near. Almayer, Slope, Comfort, Skrjabin Hc2,
I Haven' T Seen A Yeti Yet are all bands losing them-selves into
post-rock roots and rooms. Vonneuman
offer their share of experimentalism à la Storm & Stress,
while Abarthjour Floreale (the only ones featuring a girl at vocals
here, - k's note) are a fairly good sonic
distress, - Appaloosa give an effort of electric contraction, while
Lillayell and Zero Tolerance For Silence reckon them-selves
in a Beefheart-ish retch, probably owning every Us Maple's
release. Generoso Gallina are like a sum of whatever odd in new-wave
movement, - a sort of dictionary about post-punk, written by a 5 years old
child on a sheet dorty with pizza (- what the hell are You trying to say
man??, k's note). Final track: One
Dimensional Man with Remorse (according to me, the best episode,
- k's note), - and with their kickassing noise, they made me remember
of Jesus Lizard and Laughing Hyenas. Anyway, let's reward

Chiedo venia se ci ho messo quasi un anno a comprarmi l'ultimo cd dei Brittle
Stars (leggi intervista),
Garage Sale, meaculpa, meaculpa, un mega ep con un pacco di inediti
(8) e remix (7, belli), in totale 15 pezzi, un'assoluta perla di delicatezza
tra radici di New Order, Sundays,
Love Will Tear Us Apart, - ma senza ombre dark. Totalmente luminosi
x chi non Li conoscesse, - verdi dopo la pioggia come il prato che tappezza
tutta la confezione del cd, poi la voce dolcissima e triste/felice di Estel
Baruch. L'ho preso in un negozio di roma, e costava pure poco (circa
2o mila lire?), ok, Transmission,
quindi guardate lì, oppure da Just
Like Heaven, o ordinate direttamente alla Clairecords
di cui il chitarrista dei Brittle
Stars è gentle boss. - Your Street Is Dark, una canzone
piacevolissima quanto breve, con un giro di basso che ogni volta mi ritrovo
a fischiettare o rifare sulla guitar dicendomi cazzo ma come gli è
venuta?, ottimi intrecci con la chitarra gentile, e la batteria e keyb
casa Factory. Disorder Lies, Rump Shaker, Souvenir, altre
canzoni che non potete mancare se già avevate comprato ed amato il
precedente cd, e come me lamentavate che durava troppo poco. - I remix riprendono
pezzi dell'altro cd, e sono davvero ri-costruiti/rigenerati, - molto elettronici,
alcuni ridotti a data-music, o eterizzati (senti la versione di Hand4d),
- ci si sono sbizzarriti i Loro amici. - Cd

Gods forgive me if it took me sooooo looong to buy last Brittle
Stars' release (read interview),
Garage Sale, a mega-ep with a bunch of unedit (8) and remixes (7
good ones), 15 tracks in total, - absolutely a pearl of delicacy between
roots of New Order, Sundays,
Love Will Tear Us Apart, - but without dark shadows. Totally
bright, as green as it is a garden after it rained, the self-same grass
covering all cd artwork, - then the sweeeeet sadhappy voice of Estel
Baruch. I found this cd in a music shop of Rome, but You can get it
at a lower price through Clairecords's
mailorder, whose Steve, palying guitar in Brittle
Stars, is owner. Your Street Is Dark, as very beautiful song
indeed as brief, with a encroyable cute bass-guitar riff, - and more than
once i found my-self playing notes on my guitar doing this song and saying
to my-self oh gods, that's fantastic!, - excellent interlacements
of a gentle guitar with drums and keyboards, Factory_made like in certain
episodes. Disorder Lies, Rump Shaker, Souvenir, songs You
cannot miss if You already had loved Their former cd, - and if like me You
complaint it lasts few time (about half an hour). Part of remixed songs
are from the former album, but They are really re-built/regenerated, sometimes
electronic, sometimes in data-music mood, or etherified (listen to Hand4d's

02-Ago-2002 12:04 PM - Roma da diversi anni si è rivelata quale rilevante laboratorio di sonorità elettroniche, al pari di altre capitali europee, e non è difficile imbattersi in personaggi (come in questo caso) particolarmente abili nella creazione di paesaggi digitali generati dalle macchine. Quella di Moket (un composer per portatile da manuale) è una musica per cerebro-architetture espanse, ricca com'è di trame ambientali a la maniera degli Autechre e sostenuta da poliritmi leggeri in alcuni momenti prossimi all'estetica trip hop. Questa elettronica interiore episodicamente rivela l'influenza degli attuali microcompositori, ed un qual gusto per il minimalismo eurocolto in vena di cassa dritta (il terzo brano, brillante elucubrazione concettuale con reminiscenze di Pole e Brinkmann) benché anche in quei frangenti la musica mantenga sempre le sue forti connotazioni/fascinazioni autunnali. C'è un alone di malinconia (soul forse, comunque anima) che attraversa tutto il cd, persino beats di classe, raffinatezze prossime alla Mo-Wax ed arrangiamenti orchestrali che scivolano sulle levigate lastre sintetiche disegnate dagli strumenti elettronici. Notturno e artificialmente intelligente, Moket è in grado di mettere d'accordo gli scoppiati dell'IDM, i romantici del neo-Kraut e gli assidui evoluzionisti della dancefloor. Quello che va detto di questo cd, è che si tratta soprattutto di un ascolto estremamente piacevole (giurin giurella) e che se ve lo accattate lo metterete da subito tra le vostre priorità intelligent techno. - 12 trx x 52 minuti circa, su cd-r. [by__Vono] // Rome, since several years, showed to be a considerable lab for electronic sonorities, just like some other european capital cities, and then it's easy meeting some people (like in this case) particularly skilled in creating digital landscapes generated by machines. Moket's one (a typical lap-top composer) is music for expanded cerebro-architectures, as rich as it is of ambiental woofs as Autechre, and substained by light multi rythms in some moments closed to trip-hop aesthetics. This inner electronic music shows in some episodes some influences of nowadays micro-composers, and a certain taste for euro-learned minimalism, driven by mono-technobeat (third track, brillant conceptual lucubration with Pole and Brinkmann rememberings), although in those moments Moket's music hold his own autumnal charm/connotations. There's a shadow of blues (soul-like maybe, anyway, it's a soul), crossing the whole cd, even class-beats, refinements next to Mo-Wax and orchestral arrangements, sliping on smooth synthetic surfaces, drawn by electronical instruments. Nocturnal and artificially cute, Moket is able to be loved by IDM fanatics, and neo-Kraut romantics, and dancefloor habitué. Last thing to add, i have to say listening this cd has been extremely loveble (i swear!), and if You get it, it'll become one of Your favorite piece of intelligent techno. 12tx for about 52 min, and it's a cd-r..
