30-Dec-2002 13:59 PM - Tex La Homa - Dazzle Me With Transience (12tx cd, 45.28'' - Superglider rec 'o2) - Il cantautorato folk dei Tex La Homa (o meglio di Matt Shaw) è un distillato di dolcezze pop con aliti di Yo La Tengo, impreziosito da arrangiamenti elettronici e trainato da eleganti ritmiche downtempo. Le atmosfere dei brani sono avvolgenti, notturne e raffinate, anche laddove le chitarre si sporcano di elettricità per un'escursione shoegaze (Launch), o dove gli arrangiamenti si fanno più scarni per addentrarsi nel lo-fi pop (When I Am Lost). Il cd sembra essere diviso in due metà, altri vertici d'intensità espressiva vengono toccati nella seconda parte del disco, la più acustica ed asciutta (anche se l'uso del sintetizzatore rimane una costante non variabile nella strategia del gruppo) inanellando una serie di gemme da gettare secchiate di lacrime. Il finale è da strapparsi il cuore, buttarlo per terra e calpestarlo senza pietà con stivali da buttero: Need to Find a Way è un commovente lamento à la Leonard Cohen, anche se ad eseguire il brano è un ensemble di androidi alla prese con divagazioni ambientali. Se i Tex La Homa, i Sancho Panza (!) [fra non molto da recensire, ndk] e gli Psychic Paramount (per menzionare tre gruppi che abbiamo scoperto di recente) sono la fotografia dello stato di salute dell'underground americano, c'è veramente da sperare bene per il futuro. This cd seems to be divided in two half, - more different top of expressive intensity are reached in the second one, - more acoustic and dry (even if synth is a constant), making a whole of gems able to touch You deep down inside. This album closes in a way that tears Your heart apart and tread on it with cowboys boots: Need to Find a Way is a moving lament à la Leonard Cohen, even if this track is an ensemble of androids with ambient escapes. If Tex La Homa, Sancho Panza (!) [to be reviewed soon, k's note] and the Psychic Paramount are the picture of health state of american underground, - we can truly have hope on the future. Great. 'o2) - Stefano Panzera, as He introduces him-self, draws inspiration from his passion for the new northern european electronic movement (Mum, Tarwater, just to cite few), and borrowing some samples from these Bands (a voice, a sound), He rebuilts a row of his own. Very well self produced, laptop, ambient Music, relaxing cold age, loops, chill-out on drum machine and keyb/synth, able to make mist and morning parfume rising after the rain; Toy# 5 seems to be the most inspired one, with a vocal sample of Mari Boine, together with the #3, kind of late Seefeel taste. I'd wonder what He might produce with help of a real female singer. - Get in touch. // Dedo - Toys (ep cdr 5tx - 27.o1'', Autoprod. 'o2) - Stefano Panzera, come da sua presentazione, si lascia ispirare dalla passione x la nuova onda elettronica nord_europea (Mum, Tarwater, tanto x citarne un paio), e prendendo in prestito qualche campione di questi brani (una voce, un suono), ne ricostruisce una serie di propri. Molto ben registrato, laptop, ambient Music, rilassante cold_age, loops, chill-out su drum machine e tastiere/synth che alzano da terra foschia e profumi del primo mattino post-pioggia. - Il Toy #5 mi sembra quello + ispirato, con il campione della voce di Mari Boine, insieme al #3, quasi in odore ultimi Seefeel. 26-Dec-2002 2:50 PM - Silt Fish - Zabaranda (cd 11tx, Public Eyesore rec 'o2) - Il duetto attacca sulle prime tre tracce con del bislacco folk country alternativo, strane veloci ballate o nenie da ranch e vacche, con talvolta elementi elettronici disturbanti, synth noise e drum machine. Teatralità un pò Bowie-ana nella voce di Lui, sorta di cantastorie western. Un pizzico di follia, e arriva la notte, la title-trk, l'ingresso al cimitero, il vento che ulula, l'organo che risuona sinistro su chitarre acidule distorte. Psichedelico? //This duo opens first three tracks with some odd alternative country folk, strange quick ballads or singsongs between cows and a ranch, - with sometimes some electronic elements jamming, synth noises and drum machine. Voice heatricalism a bit recalling Bowie, sort of western ballad singer. A bit of madness, and night comes, the title-trk, cemetary entry, wind blowing and howling, an organ playing sinister on acidulous distorted guitars. Psychedelic?

'o2) - Richiamano un pò i New Model Army x certi versi, specie x l'attacco veloce iniziale di Marc Chagall Has Raped my Mind, però QUI con suoni scarni dovuti a un mix amatoriale che non rende Loro tanta giustizia, credo. Avvicinateci l'idea di qualche parentesi musical swing del Cappellaio Matto che presenta la sua tavola imbandita ad Alice (Blink Black, Goldfish) e qualche nero seme di Nick Cave nel thé (Dry Song): tutte coordinate x dire che dal vivo non dispiacerebbero affatto, vista anche una certa originalità nella proposta. - C'è una cover, versione rovesciata come un calzino, di Venus in Furs, - ma penso questo sia stato un passo + lungo della gamba, troppo rivestita di rabbia nella voce di Lui (nome d'arte 'Panda' ?!?) e debolezza nelle chitarre, - forse anche perchè personalmente sono troppo assuefatto all'originale. // Stati di Angoscia - Simple Instructions To Let Your Dead Bird Fly (12tx - 5o.12'', self-prod. Let's call also some swing musical parenthesis of a Mad Hat introducing to Alice his long group laid sumptuously (Blink Black, Goldfish), then, add in Your cup of tea, some Nick Cave's bad seed (Dry Song): all coordinates to say that a live performance might probably sound somewhat interesting, especially for their originality. There's a cover, overturned version of Venus in Furs, - but i think they bite off more than one can chew, - too much anger in the male voice, and weakless on guitars, - but maybe i say like that because i'm too accustomed to the original one.

Dickens), - anyway, Elks Skiffle Group (already interviewed on koma#1o), already puppets and comtemporaneously alien beings, now They are aven Elfs, helping mr. Midnight_Milk&Biscuits, to make very Special Your Eve night. Santa's wittel helpers do not lose Their pop-py Music style, now merging with classic Xmas tunes hits, toy keyboard, male/female sweet sung, lot of childish fun, delicate Casio ballads, with swinging rythms: I Want a Teddy Bear for Christmas, Hey Oh for Christmas, - but never forgetting these special days spent in Their own Universe, somewhere in outerspace of Fantasy. I Piccoli aiutanti di San Nicola dE bEri non perdono il Loro tocco pop-pesco nella Musica, ora fondendolo anche con dei classici motivetti natalizi, tastiere giocattolo, voce di Lei e Lui insieme, dolcemente, molto divertimento infantile, delicate ballate alla Casio, - con alcuni ritmi swing: I Want a Teddy Bear for Christmas, Hey Oh for Christmas, - ma mai dimenticando questi giorni particolari come vengono festeggiati dalle Loro porti, nel Loro Universo, nell'oltrespazio fantasioso. Troppo carini, troppo matti ^_^. -- I cd su Peace Work Music costano davvero una sciocchezza (6 euro?), quindi metteteVi in contatto, il sito è traducibile anche in italiano.

23-Dec-2002 10:10 PM - Hollydrift - This Way to Escape (1o trx, 52.16'' Public Eyesore rec 'o2) - Everything here sounds experimental, extremly dark drones with noise control, trails of black lights of 8o's new-wave/industrial (Amphenol), sort of ambient electronic Music, one-man factory, Mathias Anderson, - some episodes of a whispered male sung on glitchy samples layers, mixing blurry singsongs and surreal tv commercial tunes too (hear Colonial Skyway, real media file). Phasers, hallucinogenic, anxious trance, all themes not new for Public Eyesore rec, a real guide, one more time (browse komakino for more), in experimental alternative Music. Coil mixed to a space trip? Very good alchemy of noise indeed. //Hollydrift - This Way to Escape (1o trx, 52.16'' Public Eyesore rec 'o2) - Tutto suona sperimentale qui, lascivia dark estrema, unita al controllo del rumore, - stralci di luci nere della new-wave/industrial degli 8o (Amphenol), sorta di ambient elettronica, un solo uomo dietro tutto ciò, Mathias Anderson, giusto pochi episodi di cantato sussurrato di Lui, su campioni e tappeti di glitch, mixando cantilene bruciate e jingle di spot televisivi dei 6o's anche (hear Colonial Skyway, real media file). Effetti phaser, allucinogeni, trance ansiosa, tutti temi molto cari alla Public Eyesore rec, una vera guida, ancora una volta (sfoglia komakino x saperne di +), nella Musica alternativa sperimentale. I Coil mixati ad un viaggio spaziale? Ottima alchemia del rumore.

22-Dec-2002 4:56 PM - Acherontia Styx - Changing Perspectives / We Walk Beyond (cd 6trx, 43'51'', Eye Of Kephra 'o2) - Acherontia Styx, per quanto mi riguarda, è l'entità (o meglio, one-man project) dark assolutamente + credibile in italia, - ma un dark pessimistico in forma ambient, un ambient malato, un vero e proprio viaggio che si fa in volo trasportati a forza da qualche muto sinistro angelo col volto nascosto, - Ti tiene sospeso nel vuoto e Ti lascia guardare, entrambi invisibili, quello che vuole farTi inevitabilmente vedere: lui cinico e tu a sentire, orecchie e pelle, tutto in atrocità, ad occhi spalancati, brividi. -- Sì, sì, è per immagini, questo è l'unico modo che trovo x descrivere l'effetto di questo nuovo cd, Changing Perspectives / We Walk Beyond, il terzo recensito album di Acherontia Styx su komakino quindi, un altro passo avanti x Diego Grossi: dolore, incitamento bellico dal pulpito, harsh noise, campionamenti, tanti, stralci di film, suoni bruciati di synth, software e voce, il tutto davvero osceno nella sua bellezza nera, come con In The Colonoy The Bliss, - sadici amplessi nascosti (nemmeno tanto) tra le mura di qualche chiostra gregoriana. Curiosa e geniale la confezione del cd: in cartoncino, fatta a mò di vecchio floppy disc, quello davvero flessibile dei tempi andati (per fortuna ^_-), - quindi è anche un pezzo da 'collezione' x certi versi, oltre che un ricercatissimo ambiente oscuro in cui tuffarsi, alienarsi, rabbrividire. Invisible, You watch and hear and feel all he wants You to see, - and images are just the unique right way to describe this work, the third for Diego Grossi, one more step ahead to the beautiful madness of Sound, between harsh noise, sampling, movies clips, burnt synths, software and voice, - something somewhat obscene in its black beauty, - as for In The Colonoy The Bliss, rough sex between Gregorian walls. - Cd artwork is curious and cute, made and shaped like a big old floppy disc of 8o's, then You can consider it a piece rare too to be collect, - beside being a very good piece of Music You can dive in, to completly alienate Your-self. 21-Dec-2002 6:31 PM - I Gata Negra sono stati una piacevolissima sorpresa live l'altra sera al Sonica di Roma, - terzetto australiano, tale Cat Hope alla voce e basso (spesso distorto), altra ragazza a violoncello e cori, e uno strano set di batteria, con la grancassa insolitamente suonata a mano. Risultato: - sonorità melliflue, romantiche, qualche memoria dei Low, simpatici e modesti, poetici e notturni. Ho preso un cd, 11 tracce, formato digipack, ottima confezione tutta da scoprire, copia #45 di 5o, con in allegato anche un cdr con un video, 1o euro, - la voce di Lei, grave, cerca toni nostalgici, - e con i suoni insieme ci riesce e li accarezza, si spengono le luci, - molto carini, delicati, - a Catania il 22 allo Zo si fa ancora in tempo a vederseli. [-› concerti]. ---- Ad aprire la serata c'erano anche i (<ar, già trovati lo scorso 25 aprile su komakino, due rumoristi + alla voce/sussurri/urla/crisi Tiziana Lo Conte dei fu-Gronge, - mano ai minidisc e manopole, sciorinano una mezz'ora buona di un bell'ambient/colonna sonora a mò di un corto cinematografico dell'assurdo, suonando anche un bislacco organetto, spazzolando rame, sfregando conchiglie, - peccato non ci fossero delle immagini ad hoc proiettate dietro. // I really enjoyed Gata Negra's live performance a couple of nights ago in Rome, a trio from Australia, as i know, with a nice girl called Cat Hope at (distorted) bass and vocals, one more nice girl at backing vcls and cello, - and an odd simple drum set (bass drum played by hands). What came out: sweet/honeyed sonorities, romantic, some memories à la Low, nice and modest, poetical and nocturnal. - I bought Their album cd, 11 tracks, digipack format, very cool package to page, copy numbered 45 of 5o, with one more cdr included (with a video), - ten euros, - Cat's voice, grave, looks for nostalgical tones, - and She reaches Them, togheter with sounds, blending them, - lights switching off, - very nice and delicate. Have a listen.

09-Dec-2002 7:18 PM - 5 Wheels Drive (5tx, cdr) - Fuzzy e sabbiosi i 5WD, sotto il polverone e la ricerca di quel sound tra Motorhead, Kyuss, Black Sabbath, sentendoci anche un pò di Tool x certi versi su alcuni momenti della voce di Lui, - quindi suoni pesanti, senza però essere mai truzzi metal, - una grossa mole di accordi aperti e sporchi delle chitarre, + batterie tirate suonate in stile. Da quanto leggo, sembra sia stato registrato in presa diretta questo ep, - beh, Coming Free e Sympathy for the Sun hanno i cosiddetti controco*oni, tanto x essere forbiti, e il tutto viaggia a 1o cm da terra, nel senso che sono fortemente coinvolgenti, alzano la polvere del pavimento, anche dal vivo immagino. Ah, sono italiani. Sul sito, mp3 & + info. // 5 Wheels Drive (5tx, cdr) - Fuzzy and sandy, here You are the 5WD, under a great cloud of dust and searching for that typical sound between Motorhead, Kyuss and Black Sabbath, with a little bit of Tool too, in certain vocals episodes; - heavy sounds, without being metal_freaks, a vast mass of open guitar chords, and dirty, together with drifting drumming, perfect just like as the above mentioned style teached. - As i was reading, it sems it's been recorded directly in a live set studio, - and well, Coming Free and Sympathy for the Sun really kick ass, and the whole thing runs at one foot from the ground, - i mean, They are strongly drifting, and i guess it's even better from live. Per chi volesse cordinate, diciamo che stanno tra gli ultimi Three Mile Pilot/Black Heart Procession e Godspeed You Black Emperor!. Alla chitarra un ex Mind Vortex (leggi koma#1), tra l'altro. Beh, di Gruppi che cavalcano quest'onda ce ne sono a frotte, ma ciò non nega a questo del valore e vederLi live x sentire altri pezzi. Fossero stati degli sconosciuti, ammetto che gli avrei tirato qualcosa (e qualcuno l'ha fatto..) -- Ci sono rimasto male, anche se i Due sono davvero simpatici, e c'era AMORE quella sera verso il pubblico (su Cherree si cantava in molti I Love You I Love You), -- il tutto ricambiato, anche se uno accanto a me con voce rotta diceva no, nun chiedete quer pezzo, così rovinano pure quello;- ma io ti capisco, fratello nel dolore, ma Loro restano i Suicide, pure se durante il concerto bevono solo acqua liscia e una lattina di coke, - e dietro di me un tipo che se Li era visti già ventanni fa (sembra) al Black Out urlava giustamente x Alan, mentre ogni tanto il microfono si spegneva, FATELO CANTA'. - I pezzi erano quasi (se non del tutto) irriconoscibili, Ghost Rider e Rocket USA su tutti, credo che Vega non si ricordasse nemmeno + i testi, ma le mossettine da club, Martin con lo sguardo perso alla raycharles, e la voce era quella (pure se priva di ogni effettistica/epilessia), i balletti che facevano insieme e gli abbracci, -- mi scende una lacrima e vevogliobenepureio. Cantavano Stay Alive, i Suicide.. Purtroppo una marea di cazzoni continuava ad urlare we want more, mentre dopo un paio di bis i due risalivano a fatica le scale delle quinte. ___-_________--__ Davvero una chicca i supporter THE PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT, cazzo, da soli valevano il concerto!!!! Una rivelazione x il sottoscritto, - da New York, il terzetto (ex laddiobalocco, mi pare di aver capito, ma sicuramente sbaglio il nome) spacca totalmente con delle strumentali da svenimento, impatto da soundtrack, totale trip lisergico e ispirato, violento, figli prodigio del LINE6 [- ovvero un super effettone x fare una marea di eco controllato sulla chitarra], un vero ANIMALE alla batteria (da tagliarsi le vene x donargli il sangue), e sfuggiti dalle riprese del film Blow Up di Antonioni, con un tipo dai baffi improbabili che riprendeva con una super8 il tutto --- purtroppo quella sera non vendevano dischi, mi rispondeva il chitarrista, essendosi uniti al tour con preavviso di sole due settimane. Davvero speciali, consigliati davvero, - spero che si trovi Loro dischi in giro. Indagherò, - un tipo mi chiedeva se sono italiani, io rispondo magari e lui hai detto bene, in italia sai quanti ne dobbiamo seppellì ancora prima d'avecceli così. - Oh, fratello nel dolore, oh fratello nel dolore. // No, i'm not dead, and i didn't even run away with all komakino_profits (ahahAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahacoffcoffaah[..]aha), but, because of several grasshoppers invasions and raining frogs, i have to give up for a couple of days. ___-_________--__ Yesterday night i've been seeing Suicide performing live here in Rome, ohggods, i said Suicide, and it's been a concert under the sign of lets-love-us-all, because our loved aged Alan Vega (phisically closed to Elvis and Joey Ramone, during tired and inflated ages) and Martin Rev (scandal: when He doesn't wear his special no-view glasses, He's Lou Reed' lost twin brother, but thiner), according to me, played a sort of bluff, - because they stylezed all songs on a simple roland/yamaha keyboard, then press play on DEMO botton and here You are the whole concert, - with Martin beating fists on keys.. i've been a bit disappointed, You know, even because sometimes it was like Alan didn't even remember the words, - but notwithstanding all that, They really sounded like two special good friends, happy to be loved by people, and ready to give LOVE too, - when They was performing special odd dances together, when They embraced and touching people hands, - even if songs like Ghost Rider e Rocket USA were fucking hard to recognize.. But i've been glad to be there for Them, i love You too guys! - A real SHOCK, there was a Band supporting, called THE PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT, fucking great!!!! absolutely!, a real revelation, LINE-6 sons prodigy, lysergical, violent, inspired, - totally instrumental, three guys from New York, people, i do not have enough words now, - i cannot but suggest Them indeed, - but at moment, i don't know anything else about Them, if not, maybe some of Them come from Laddio Balocco's line-up (surely i mispell the name.. sorry). Unfortunately They didn't sell merchandise or cd's that night, oh shit!
