Charles Atlas - Worsted Weight (9tx, 61'oo'' - Ochre
rec 'o3) - Musica che filtra luce e buio, che culla i sensi nella pacata beatitudine,
- così apre il nuovo cd dei Charles
Atlas, in un lento incedere che si lascia poi elevare dal canto di una voce
di donna. - Loro sono di S. Francisco_usa, come base, cioè Charles
Wyatt (ex Piano Magic, Dart, - poi collaborazioni eccellenti
tra cui l'ultima con Jessica Bailiff), Matt Greenberg e Sacha
Galvagna, - Lui ex Rosa
Mota / Horsepower (sniff sniff..), già incontrato e lodato + volte
su koma ^_^. - Avevo provato ad aiutarli ad organizzare delle date qui in italia,
ma come al solito nessuno mi ha letteralmente cagato.. pubblico&bookingagencies
dimmerda. - Cmq, i Charles
Atlas sono pura sound-track, su questo disco con leggerissimo retrogusto
6o's nella spolverata elettronica (Strategies for Success Boxes), mentre
il precedente disco sembrava + guitar driven. - Strumentali e sognanti, nell'agititatissima
e angosciosa (senti One Foot Under) fase r.e.m.. Chitarra su giri di
corde ipnotici, tastiere/piano, riflessivi e rilassanti (Sun With Teeth,
Elysium), o persi in vortici di feedback da delay/echo (Italian Air).
Poche percussioni (di natura drum_machine), sensazioni di stare alla deriva
da qualche parte. - Per aiutarVi a riaprire gli occhi la mattina in tarda ora,
- o x chiuderli in una notte insonne, - Molto Consigliati. //

rec 'o3) - Music able to blend light and darkness, to swindle Your senses in
a quiet bliss, - that's how Charles
Atlas's new album opens introducing its-self, in a slow gait, that a female
inspired voice brings higher as the song grows on. They're from S. Francisco_usa,
as head quarter, seeing Charles Wyatt (already in Piano Magic,
Dart, - and recently collaborating with Jessica Bailiff), Matt
Greenberg e Sacha Galvagna, - our well known Rosa
Mota / Horsepower member (sniff sniff..), more than once loved and met ^_^
here on koma. Charles
Atlas are pure movie/dream-scores writers, half-tragic sound tracks, with
a very light 6o's electronic dust after taste (Strategies for Success Boxes),
- former ep sounded to be more guitar driven. Anyway, once more instrumental
and dreaming on the excited and distressed r.e.m. phase (listen to One Foot
Under), guitar riffs on hypnotical notes, keybs/piano, bass, thoughtful
and relaxing (Sun With Teeth, Elysium), or lost in a vortex of
delay feedback (Italian Air), few low drum machine beats, - it feels
like You are adrift somewhere. Music to gently wake up and open again Your eyes,
or close them in a night when You cannot sleep.. Warmly suggested..

Milaus - Rock da City (9tx, 41'25'' - Mondopop/Cane
Andaluso rec 'o3) - Particolare indie band nostrana votata al disarticolato
sciancato lo_fi americano, - si distingue originale nel suo song-writing
innamorato (An Ocean, Madrid - la perla del disco?). Scelte pop
ma mai troppo radiofriendly. Packaging del cd in cartoncino verde elettrico,
carino da scoprire a cofanetto, con inserti di figure in stencil, - bell'idea.
L'apertura strumentale di Fools Witch credo segni le provienienze post-rock
prima era del Gruppo, ma ammorbidite molto dalla voce e i cambi, obliqui alla
Deus, x certi versi. Atmosfere malinconiche ma tendenti a cercare spensieratezza
(Blanket Man, o l'ammiccante Rock Connection), - uso di violini
anche, clarinetto, - riescono a fare bella figura, rimanendo abbastanza non
inquadrabili (pregio) e piacevoli. Non sono riuscito ad affezionarmi a nessun
pezzo, ma vale Loro sicuramente attenzione. - L'ultimo pezzo fa titolo 107
Bombs: - non mi sono messo a contare quante volte pronuncia gravemente 'bombs',

- Rock da City (9tx, 41'25'' - Mondopop/Cane
Andaluso rec 'o3) - Particular indie group, dedicated to a hipshot disarticulated
american-ish lo-fi style, able to find their own original place, thanks to their
in_loved-like song-writing (An Ocean, Madrid - gem of this album?),
pop choiches/directions, but never becoming radio-friendly. Flashing
green pastboard digipack, - a nicething to be handled, sort of box full of stencil
art inserts. Good idea. Instrumental intro of Fools Witch lets You image
of some kind of early post-rock roots, - but softer because of male sung, and
oblique changes (reminding of Deus). Melancholical feelings, but wanting/longing
for being carefree (Blanket Man, or the winking Rock Connection),
- use of violins too, clarinet, - They're able to catch Your attention, without
being easy to classify (that's good..), pleasant. I am not fond in any of these
songs, to be frank, but They deserve attention, - that's what i feel for sure.
- Last song's named 1o7 Bombs: i didn't count how many times He sings

The Forms - Icarus
(1otx, 18'19'' - Three
Spheres rec 'o2) - Bisognerebbe fare già solo la recensione alla
confezione di questo cd. - Il packaging de-luxe PIU' meraviglioso che abbia
mai tenuto tra le mani; - non finisci mai di aprirlo, estrarre, sfogliare, guardare,
- un pezzo da collezione di x sé, insomma, - pure se sopra ci fosse stato
registrato anche solo un rutto di 2 secondi. Lo compravo. - Cmq rutti non ce
ne sono, anzi. Loro in tre, da Brooklyn, album di debutto sound engineered nientepopòdimeno
che da Steve Albini, e masterizzato da John Golden, che leggo
aver messo le mani sui Sonic
Youth anche, - pompando idee tra Sunny
Day Real Estate e Guided
By Voices, - indie rock emozionale che riluccica su intrecci riff di
chitarre turbinanti. Incredibile che 1o tracce durino tanto poco, con le prime
tre spezzate ognuna di in due tempi/suite. Quindi il cd finisce all'improvviso,
e io ripremo play, - cercando di fare + attenzione e trattenerle dentro di me.
Spleen, elevazione, adrenalina/distensione, - ottimi suoni (bisognava dirlo?)
e perfezionismo nell'esecuzione batteria/basso. Voce ispirata melodiosa con
picchi arrabbiati di lui. Consigliati. Bisogna sentire di + (intanto scaricateVi
Sunday o Black
Metal). // The

Spheres rec 'o2) - I should dedicate a review even only to the enchanted
packaging of this cd. - Amazing de-luxe digipack, - never handled anything like
that before; - it's like You never stop opening, turning over the pages, looking
at pictures.. a piece to collect, even if Music had been a shit. - And luckly
it's not. Three guys from Brooklyn, debut album sound engineered by ohmygod
Steve Albini, and mastered by John Golden, that, as i read, worked
for Sonic Youth too.
They make ideas shining between Sunny
Day Real Estate and Guided
By Voices, - emotional/sensitive indie-rock sparkling on swirling guitar
riffs. It's a sort of pity these 1o songs last just less than twenty minutes,
with first three tracks divived in two parts/suites. Then cd arrives to the
last track too fast, - so i press play again, trying to pay more attention
and feeling more than before. Spleen, higher, adrenalin/relaxation, -
excellent sounds (did i really need to state that?), and drum/bass in a perfect
execution, - with a male inspired voice, between melodious and with brief angry
picks. Truly suggested. Need to hear more (in the meantime, just go and download
Sunday or Black
Metal).

Sancho Panza - Ball O' String/Nuts In May (2tx, 7" - Superglider
rec, 'o2) - Superglider
è un'etichetta da tenere d'occhio, dopo la prova di classe dei Tex
La Homa [leggi le olds di dicembre x dettagli] la label inglese ci propone
il 45 giri di un altro fenomeno, un genio assoluto con un nome d'arte improbabile:
Sancho Panza (aspettate
a ridere, l'amico fa sul serio). Ball O' Strings è un' irresistibile
ballata alla maniera dei Calexico, attraversata da disturbi elettronici
e irregolarità di vario genere, con trombe incalzanti a sostenerne la
fragile cartilagine armonica. Un trionfo dell'overdub e dell'arrangiamento in
forza di un gusto da far azzardare paragoni con Robert
Wyatt. Lo spettro del maestro di Canterbury infesta anche Nuts In
May: partenza sonnelenta e crescendo per stratificazioni di suoni, intuizioni
che ripartono dai Talk
Talk profetici di Spirit Of Eden, anche se qui non si arriva
mai alle esplosioni drammatiche di quell'album. La musica si trascina pigra
sull'orlo del collasso con lo stesso rumore che farebbe una foglia cadendo in
una pozzanghera. E' un commovente biascico slow-core per chitarra, trombe, pianoforte
e voce. Sancho Panza
è veramente un mito, grazie Superglider,

45 rpm of one more phoenomenon aka Sancho
Panza: please, do not laugh about the name, because this fellow is serious.
Ball O' Strings is an irresistible ballad à la Calexico,
crossed by electronic disturbances and various genre oddness, with hotly pursuing
trumpets to substain the harmonical fragile gristle. A triumph for overdub
and songwriting, strong of a taste able to feed comparisons with Robert
Wyatt. The ghost of Canterbury's Master infests/thouces Nuts in May
too: sleepy, it starts, growing through multi-layered sounds, ideas coming
from prophets Talk
Talk of Spirit Of Eden, even if here it never reach to drammatic
explosions of that album. Music drifts it-self lazy on the border of collapse,
with the same noise of a leave falling in a puddle. It's a touching slow core
for guitars, trumpets, piano and voice. Sancho
Panza is fucking cool, thanks Superglider,

Redworms' Farm - Troncomorto (9tx, 31'47'' - Fool
Tribe rec / Halley
Nation 'o3) - Il nuovo disco dei Redworms'
Farm sbrilluccica tra Van Pelt, Three Mile Pilot e Sonic
Youth, rinuncia in parte alla malinconia rabbiosa del precedente s/t, ma
solo perché ora quel sentimento è maturato, e su un paio di pezzi
appaiono per la prima volta 2 bassi (Loro, eroi del 2 gtr + batteria), oltre
che degli inquietanti fiati nella spiazzante intro d'apertura e poi in seguito
ritrovati. Da Identity torna l'epilettica loro personalità, quella
struggente e disperata, sincopata sugli stop veloci delle chitarre e voci. Rispetto
il precedente minialbum, qui c'è un mix + aperto (preferivo l'altro +
intimista), + luminoso, la batteria, che prima montava e cavalcava l'onda, ora
mitraglia ancora più forte se possibile sull'Instrumental che
strumentale invece non è. Echo porta i brividi, pelle d'oca, specie
per come attacca caricando sul delay. ### Controllate la sezione [-› concerti],
perchè hanno un pò di date x i prossimi giorni. Un Gruppo italiano
che merita ancora una volta rispetto. Aprite Loro le porte, e lasciateVi invadere.

Redworms' Farm - Troncomorto

- New Redworms' Farm's
album shines between Van Pelt, Three Mile Pilot and Sonic
Youth, renouncing in part to that angry melancholy of former s/t one, -
but only because now this feeling is mature, and on a couple of tracks, for
the very first time, two bass guitars are featured too (while They're kind of
heroes of twoguitars+drms formula), - besides some unexpected wind instruments
of the surprising opening Intro, and then again once more going futher
on the listening. From Identity, Their epileptic personality comes back,
that kind of struggling and desperate one, syncopated on quick stops of gtrs
together with voices. At difference of the former ep, here You find a sound
engineering more open-spaced (but for Them, i'd prefer the more intimate one),
brighter, and if before percussions loaded and rode widely the "wave",
now drumming is even stronger, like a machine gun, i.e. more and more on Instrumental
(while it's not an instrumental at all). Echo gives me shivers, heard
on headphones, - They're a local Band worth respect. Open Your door, let them
in. ##### I
