13-Feb-2006 4:57 PM - 'In February of 1936, Budapest Police were investigating the suicide of a local shoemaker, Joseph Keller. The investigation showed that Keller had left a suicide note in which he quoted the lyrics of a recent popular song. The song was 'Gloomy Sunday'. Read more here, listen more below.
Sunday is gloomy, my hours are slumberless
Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will never awaken you
Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought of ever returning you
Would they be angry if I thought of joining you?

13-Feb-2006 8:56 AM - Marta Czok's press office let me know They renewed Her website, with new sections and latest works of arts (i love the poetry of Girl & Toys). And made me notice that 'Marta Czok was only born in Beirut “by chance” but is in fact of Polish origins and raised in the UK!' [-› read past komanews]. E mi si fa anche notare che 'Marta Czok was only born in Beirut “by chance” but is in fact of Polish origins and raised in the UK!'

10-Feb-2006 12:32 PM - I think that Duck and Cover is must-see: 'Famous Civil Defense film for children in which Bert the Turtle shows what to do in case of atomic attack': so absurd. More, it's of interesting reading the random people commenting. [ps. Archive.org is, one more time, a great project.]
ps2. it mades me remember of a Philip Kindred Dick's novel i read some years ago: Foster You're Dead! - amazing story about creating fear to sell more and more bomb shelters. Absolutely worth You read It.
10-Feb-2006 12:07 PM - This made me smile: an how to dance punk. Step by step. What to do and what not. I totally agree with 'And, for fuck's sake, don't do stupid shit like carry lit cigarettes in the pit!' - I hate those stupid de-braineds do it. I loved the gothic crowd surfing.. hehehe
10-Feb-2006 10:54 AM - The Rakes - Capture/Release (11tx cd, 34'2o" - V2 rec 'o5) - The Rakes were new at me although They're rocking since a few years, - i had the luck to know Them thanks to Work, Work, Work (Pub, Club, Sleep) video. Frankly, They didn't impress me all that much at a first listen, even because i was totally taken with the girl acting, and more, i'm a little pissed off about this new_new-wave wannabe scene (from Bloc Party, to the Editors, to go on).. btw, some days later i found myself in the elevator, and suddenly a leit motif started playing in my head: It's all these words, ideas and different arguments / Someone's always talking when I try to make some sense, - oh mygods, i was lost, - no way to think of something else. Kind of delayed action_effect. So, the Music. It's deeply angular heritage of british post-punk. You can hear traces of Bauhaus (guitars on Terror!), the Clash (Violent), the Pulp (Binary Love, Work, Work, Work..), early Cure (Open Book), - a perfect balance of pop and new-wave wilderness, always kept elegant thanks to lead singer's apathetic voice (- an authentic london accent -), long detailed lyrics, and by an high attention for sounds and mixing. All plays bright, - You'll feel free to dance and mosh, smiling or just moving discretely Your feet.

// Lillayell/Velma - s/t split (12tx cd, 61'33" - Psychotica rec 'o6) - Split CD well done. And, one more time, Psychotica rec gets a new jewel for its catalogue. Italian Lillayell, power-three pieces from Pisa, back after about two years since first debut on label, although now with a less elaborated epilepsy and no more hc distress, put hands again over math-rock and post-punk tortuous ways, full of fractures and irregular nerves, with vocals almost swollowed into satured sounds and noise dust. Hell(o) boings obsessivly becoming memorable because of its chorus, Analjesus pushes on granitic guitar distortions that well match with dramatical tone of vocals, - and Twilight features Anna Finori from Abarthjour Floreale, making the track more quiet and gentle, distilling a special pop-effect notwistanding the overstanding rancid lines. - Velma, from french swiss, open remixing a former Lillayell's song, Dea Velma, renewed in a new hypnotic key, syncopated into static electricity. Landing Aliens, following, blows from the beginning into a ambient-shoegaze, a mesemeric multi-layered guitar loop feeded for 10 minutes, a long trance exploration, - the same of Needles and Store, where time stops itself, and has got a new envelopment in width besides than in lenght. Happy Today is more like some lysergical tune à la Sonic Youth, those kind of carpets of sounds like a supernatural talk. - Velma are particular, although the production is still too much low-fi to be brilliant, - anyway it doesn't change that it brings something magic.
09-Feb-2006 12:22 PM - This is spectacular. China is Beautiful. Diomio che spettacolo. Great work over colours and locations. All is so peaceful and clear. It makes me want to run away from here.
08-Feb-2006 5:59 PM - Lovely and melancholic and sad and so cute, too: Riba's aquarela-like short movie.

// Comfort - Eclipse (7tx cd, 39'11 - Psychotica rec 'o6) - Kind of nocturnal, melancholic and delicate, - hard to think of it when the sun hits outside. A debut into homogenic delicacy of seven instrumental partitures, with some light shadows of progressive and a proper mark of slow-core style soundtrack. Composed by piano teardrops, minute sized programming, gentle guitar sounds, bass serpentines, and by a continuous attention for details, this album runs fast as a long interlude, so that You might press playback and read a good book, or just open a window to watch the city lights at night.
