31-Jan-2006 3:50 PM - It was years i didn't check any news about nashville Viva Voce: now, i crossed into this video of single Alive with Pleasure, - and, besides being a cute catchy piece of melody, it's very very well done work, - such so simple and warm (i love the first chapter). I wish i have a coffee cup with Anita and Kevin. And i'm happy Their style has evolved from mainstream to something so brilliant poppish.

31-Jan-2006 11:11 AM - It was about one year ago when i read with HUGE joy that Three Mile Pilot were going to release a new album.. but but.. probably things didnt come as planned, because no news came out since there. Btw, at mp3it, runned by Three Mile Pilot's roadie Jason Soares, there are some mp3s of live recordings, and pieces like 97 Mt still give me the shivers after more than 12 years of listens. - Anyway, until some months ago mp3 rate quality was pretty good, now its average is pertty low, although it's always worth a download; more, You can find Music from Black Heart Procession and other san diego based indies. ps. note, website's server is somewhat slow, besides having some html errors to be fixed, - btw, downloads work fine.

Mondieu. // I got an email from a french guy, Jean-Pierre Isnardi, about His band project, Pas De Printemps Pour Marnie: notwistanding Hitchcock referencies, it's all about playing guitar/electro pop covers of My Bloody Valentine, - yes, You read right. And You know, until now, it's the best result i found around in covering Shields & Co.'s pieces.. cap in hand, no efforts of making clones, - the re-ordered melodies, boy/girl vocals, and their renewed twee-poppish style match fine, especially on When You Sleep, Sometimes (with a nice attention from the intro to the end), or on No More Sorry, where the song has got a pretty different as personal songwriting, - and, i'd never thought Lose My Breath could play so lounge. - I mean, all sounds so lovely. - And more, it's free download.
And well, seen this is the talking point, let me link a few other bands who played MBV covers:

22-Jan-2006 6:05 PM - Mayumi - Myriad Luminescent - (3tx ep, 12'o2'' - PaleBlue rec 'o6) - Mayumi Ashizawi is a dreamy shoegazing Girl, multi-instrumentalist, since several years into the Art of swiriling glittering guitars. Her songs a fragile jewels of echoing sounds and delicate voices with an adorable japanese accent, - Her friends and bandmates are fenders.. (as credits specify). This three pieces ep features the different faces of this: the title-song, opus merging Cocteau Twins / Isobella sonorities with a sweet perfect melancholic chorus, is a beautiful trip to an ideal point between chaotic noise control and delicacy; - Careless, with a strong pop bass line and drifting drumming, signs the way for the radio-friendly attack, - and Snowflake Beach, where the rotary panning feedback embraces her breathy gentle vocals, recall memories of early Mahogany. - I wonder what may happen with a full lenght album, and more, when i listen to these tracks, it makes me want to play Music.

[vedi sotto per un mp3] // Mattia Coletti - Zeno (13tx cd, 38'58" - Wallace rec 'o5) - Mattia Coletti comes out with a new title for Wallace's catalogue, formerly already with Sedia and side-project 61 Winter's Hat [read komareviews], a solo debut full of letargical psychedelia, cradle by gentle acoustic guitar riffs and a rarefied static electricity in a couple of episodes (the redskin I letti di procuste). It's the sixstrings at center of everything, sometimes accompanied overall by whispered voices, or trembling, also, tangling up short serpetines, and ghost-like percussions, from far, - sort of brief flashbacks of past life, closed in a couple of distant channels. Sounds are bright and sharp, a minimalism burning folk and rumouristic together (Starland), in a particular sinister theatrical form, close to that allegoric mask on the artwork, with some poetical pathos similar to Jennifer Gentle and Vincent Gallo.

[vedi sotto x gli mp3] // Ememvoodoopöká - Dort Jak Brus (14tx cd, 43'56" - Silver Rocket rec 'o5) - One more Band from Prague, Ememvoodoopöká, this time on a more poppish plan altough always indie/lo-fi and noisy. Most of pieces are about 2 mins and a half, electronic instruments mixture, together with harmonica, classic rock dissonances, abrasive and satured sonic guitars (Vychod, - best track and composition among all), that however match well with alternative conventional style of male vocals (in czech, of course), serious and melancholic. Dort Jak Brus is not a complex album, although it is a well structured production, - it just risks to be too much chaotic and overloaded with instruments in each track, however it stays as an interesting snapshot of the local underground sound: now it's time to sparkle and rid off the anonymous shadow.

11-Jan-2006 10:59 AM - When i was about 4 and new to everything, one evening, my father brought home a strange consolle, named Intellivision (acronym for Intelligent Television) stating it was concerned for videogaming.. You can image what that means for a young little boy, - i spent the whole night wondering how and where the images were supposed to be displayed, because he didn't tell me there was a tv connecting cable for that.. initially i thought images were displayed somewhere over the hardware itself.. - five days later, my right hand thumb was turned blue (my mom was pretty worried..), because i was just became a total Burger Time addict. - So, You know i'm a nostalgic guy, and when typed in google for Intellivision i happily found as result the official homepage, featuring history, an available catalogue and a download area (for Mac too!). Unluckly there is no a free version of Burger Time available there, but You can find a list of other emulators here (not for Mac..), and download most of titles here.. ps. komareader may ask: where the fu*k is now Your Intellivision consolle? komanswers: well, when i bought C64 my parents decided to pass it to some cousins of ours, and then, i guess it got lost.. :-(

07-Jan-2006 5:32 PM - Lyssa - Amoral (11tx cd, 39'22" - Silver Rocket rec 'o5) - How cool, my ever first czech records to review. Coming from Prague, Lyssa's words play, Oral Love, is a rancid explosion of distorted sounds, thundering leaden bass lines, metallic impact drumming (brilliantly industrial on Adaga), cutting guitars, - noise & post_punk memories and rage dear to Flipper (listen Dextra) and Swans, just to cite a few, and to clear the gloomy coordinates of these 11 desperate tracks. Fierce energy (Ventilace), emotionally abrasive (Neklid), - the unique stain stays into using the same trick of songwriting for the entire album, - that might consume listener's attention, - but, - but, Amoral stays a pure energy sound underground gem, - worthy a listen. - ps. yes, of course i don't understand a word of czech.. but it's not harder than listening to the Sigur Ros.. [see below for mp3s] // Lyssa - Amoral (11tx cd, 39'22" - Silver Rocket rec 'o5) - Che figo, il mio primissimo disco ceco da recensire..

(vedi sotto per mp3) // Ex-P - Ancora Saigon (8tx cd, 44'29" - Fratto9 Under the Sky rec 'o6) - Cinematographic, missing gypsies in some Kusturica's film (La spiaggia dei conigli muti), as well in some records shelf under the earlier Pink Floyd's one (like beautiful two suites title-track). Italian Ex-P, at debut, fairly touch the two poles swirling through prog spirals (Punto Interrogativo) and hallucinogen mysticisms (Zaratustra Reprise). They build 8 instrumental tracks over trembling sounds at limits of conventional, after a deeply 70s-style production, and, even if They firmly keep a foot over a straight harmonic line, the whole album body loses its balance because of electric guitar eclectisms, clarinet, banjo (!), misured percussions and solid bass lines. - This record is a great baptism of genre, - easily it might be mistaken for some undiscovered gems from 30 yrs ago, - kind of sound score for some faded colour b-movie, where You enjoy the view of cute long-haired girls with small breasts laid bare..
