La voce di Cristian Rosa resta pulita, senza virtuosismi, magari qualche effetto in più le gioverebbe nel fornire fisicità. Non capita spesso di assistere a eventi culturali così magmatici e importanti alla Sapienza. In quanto studente e musicista indecentemente interessato ai fenomeni della musica contemporanea posso sentirmi soddisfatto. Già, perchè dalle mie parti va di moda Mozart e il concerto di ieri non lo era di certo.
Lo Zeitkratzer Ensembleè un collettivo di musicisti che è diventato famoso per aver rimesso mano alla Metal Machine Music di Lou Reed e per averla trasformata in un vero e proprio fenomeno della musica contemporanea. Molti sono stati e continuano ad essere i musicisti interessati a questo gruppo di esploratori del suono: Merzbow, Keiji Haino, Jim O'rourke, Lee Ranaldo e Rudy Trouvè ex-chitarrista dei dEUS in Worst Case Scenario.
Il gelido auditorium della Sapienza viene immediatamente riscaldato dai suoni dispersi del compositore di Nuova Consonanza Mario Bertoncini. Una terra dell'inconvenzionalità di cageiana memoria... Archetti sfregati sul bordo dei piatti per generare quelle assurde e inquietanti risonanze che un pò ricordano l'esperienze musicali di Pauline Oliveros e la sua Deep Listening Band.
Ma cio che più importa è la splendida espressione della pazzia di Lou Reed, forse all'epoca concepita come forma di ribellione verso l'RCA e che ieri sera finalmente ho avuto l'onore di ascoltare. Una violenza perfettamente espressa e a mio avviso più inebriante e convincente di quella del suo autore. Un piacevolissimo stupro dei timpani che ti pugnala fin dal primo secondo.
Il concerto si conclude con i 54 minuti della mente del poco conosciuto Iannis Xenakis. Un'esistenza dedicata all'esplorazione di un mondo sonoro architettonico, che va vissuto come tale. Immaginandoci persi in uno spazio che non è del tutto rappresentabile e in cui l'esperienza emotiva è cio che conta veramente.. [by__Massimo C.]

And i just come from buying the mp3 download release of Live @ Amsterdam 1991, a special 7 songs performance coming out from Band's archives.., the same where Reach, featured on Self-Non-Self were taken from. About 25 minutes, it sees also an unreleased track entitled Slow Song, - a somewhat obscure gloomy song, in the mood of early recordings.. i needed an oxygen dose like that.. the tracklist is perfect and the recordings are very good, - the melodies are on acid, rancid, bass on distortion, explosive guitars, drums are flashing, Alison's vocals are clean and bright.. oh god i love this! - Sixth of May is a dive into the heart! .. with love.. - Read the blog post here, buy Your digital download here else from here.

26-Jan-2007 5:27 PM - Ah, un paio di settimane fa, prima che cominciasse lo showcase degli Intellectuals (vedi sotto), sono passato da Mondo Bizzarro bookshop&gallery in v. reggio emilia, per vedere che artista sinistro esponessero in questo periodo, e mi sono ritrovato quindi di fronte ai pazzeschi sadomaso da Heisei Esthiticism di Takato Yamamoto. Essendo l'unico spettatore (la mostra è sul finire, chiude il primo febbraio), diciamo che titubavo un pò a restare troppo davanti ad una delle stampe, - lì da solo nel corridoio bianco, con la mia faccia riflessa nel vetro tra menage à 3, corde, narcisi/martiri, e con colonna sonora qualche gruppo goticone/electro tedesco.. insomma, se amate l'arte, il fetish, il jappone e gli ingressi gratuiti, la mostra è ancora lì.. consigliata.

26-Jan-2007 4:14 PM - I was googling Jean-Philippe Charbonnier and i found these photographs at Luminous-Lint (great source for 'fine photography', as stated), originally shot for french magazine Réalités in 50's, - to document psychiatric hospitals in France: at that time just a few of them was shown (and faces were censored), - but last year 'a 24 page booklet Jean-Philippe Charbonnier: HP hôpitaux psychiatriques was published by Le traitement contemporain n°4 in conjunction with gallery Agathe Gaillard'. - Black & white snapshots, notwistanding there are no notes and the shallow view they offer, anyway these pictures are scary just because You can feel the sisiniter idea of what's there behind this mute world. - The funny thing is that Réalités' issue that featured this service had on cover two fluffy kitties.. Frankly i don't know what's more crazy.. - All here.

Smith (NY, usa) and Alina Simone (Kharkiv, Ukraine), The Artificial Sea's core. Tunnel Visions is on heavy rotation on my current playlist, such it's obscure, full of desperate love, catchy, - a combination of upbeat, broken heart cello, guitars and subtle melancholic vocals. Alina's gentle voice makes me think of a fragile soul between Bjork (Things We Spent) and Cat Power (Ride This Thing), - and if i mentioned to Portishead it might only be reductive, if not in reason of the great attention given by Kevin to composition (Better Living's trip hop ambient), programming, minimal electronics and sound samples in use. The Light Of 1,000 Televisions, as well Vor (perfect in its chorus), Milemaker's dramatic beauty or the enchanting lullaby on diamonica Things We Spent made this album simply imaginative, delicate and even perfect if chosen as a melodies box to play before You sleep. E' stata la mia prima volta al micca club, nascosto dietro portamaggiore a roma, e salvo calendario interessante, sarà l'ultima. Primo perchè già mi puzzava che per entrarci bisognasse mettersi "in lista" sul sito, e poi la storia del si 'esercita un diritto di selezione su TUTTI i clienti indiscriminatamente', inclusiva della (quasi) tacita regola '3 ragazze ogni 2 ragazzi',- ma che storia è? chi vi credete di essere? E aggiungo la chicca finale che 'col cappello in testa non si entra', buttafuori docet. Ma che schifo. C'erano pure i gorilla in giacca e cravatta.. Poi ok, il locale è arredatissimo, insonorizzato, ultracool, pieno di luci psichedeliche che cambiando continuamente di gradiente, due bar, addirittura una vera sala fumatori, schermi dappertutto, cessi ultra comfort con tanto di vaporizzatore del sapone per le mani (ho visto un tizio usarlo come profumo..). E la programmazione dei dj non affatto male. Forse il palco è un pò sacrificato rispetto tutto lo spazio disponibile. Però la selezione alla porta no. Che dire, un locale così me lo aspetterei a milano, non a roma che la media è bassa, - e ieri sera c'era diversa gente 'indie/alternative/modaiola' che si guardava altrettanto spaesata in giro. Vabbè, 'alternative' è una parola grossa.. aggiusterei il tiro su 'modaiola', con i ggiovani vestiti come i beatles, con pantaloni a sigaretta bianca, giubbe inglesi, ragazzine sixties.. oddio mi sentivo all'interno di un servizio patiné di moda protopunk su marieclaire.. e io che momenti uscivo in pigiama da casa. Credo che l'unica cosa in comune con la maggior parte di questo pubblico fossero le allstars che avevo ai piedi.. - ok sì, odio la gggente.
Credo basti Boring Lifestyle per fare dei Twisted Charm un'icona della no-wave più danzereccia attuale. Giovanissimi, vestiti al mercatino vintage più eclettico sotto casa (di sicuro non sfiguravano nel locale), scuola The Fall, - una chitarra che quando preme su delay e octave acquista un suono tipicamente anomalo e underground, - la batteria senza piatti che ritma uptempo instancabile, - sax dissonante artwave, il basso in continuo stop&go, e poi la voce di Nathan, atona o in falsetto, completamente bored e in reminiscenza spocchiosa punk à la Pistols, con controcanto del bassista - tutto a fare dei Loro pezzi un insieme di stile squisitamente originale e valido, nonostante le sottili differenze nel song-writing da primo ascolto. Il live è stato decisamente breve quanto entusiasmante (ATTENZIONE: questo non significa che il pubblico capitolino abbia ballato, figuratevi..), poche chiacchiere, carino vederli ballare come tarantolati, - e infine un solo encore, con falso bis di Boring Lifestyle, poi troncato. In evidenza metterei poi l'altro singolo Happy Alone, e Twisted Ambulance particolarmente ipnotico/stregato - anche senza synth (come nella versione su disco). Poi a fine concerto l'amico Cri è andato dietro le quinte per farsi dare un paio di vinili, ed è tornato indietro con in premio anche un paio di birre offerte dallo stesso Nathan, - insomma, pare proprio che pur potendo non se la tirino, e meno male, - questa è classe.. non come la selezione alla porta..

Last saturday, after i saw The Intellectuals performing a short showcase at HellNation records shop (scroll down to read and watch more) to present Their new full-lenght release Invisible is the Best, - later around 12pm i got the chance to enjoy one more longer show at sinister noise club, where The Intellectuals were opening for french blues/punk combo Cheb Samir & the Black Souls of Leviathan. The Intellectuals were totally brilliant, groovy, garage and funny, - the sound was fuzzy and dirty, songs primal and direct - and surely more powerful and satured than previously in the evening. Guitar_Boy was absolutely inflamed, often down on his knees playing wild guitar, yelling at the microphone twisting his mouth, - Drum_Girl was in a continuous sneer/laugh of pleasure and Key_tee stood enthusiastically nervous. A great show, i particularly enojoy Fichetti, Identity, R'nR Jedi, Fish & Chips and Monks' cover, Complication. - Cheb Samir & the Black Souls of Leviathan are pure rancid blues men. Cheb must have some black lineage in his veins, because His voice is closer to Bo Diddley or Howlin' Wolf than to a white man. - More, i won't forget the drummer with a broken leg playing percussions.. absurd! And He was absolutely a machine-gun. - Less experimental on stage than on studio recordings, - Cheb Samir and friend were totally bright on I Know What to Do by My-self, My New Motorcycle - an undiscussed talent, notwithstanding the spartan instrumentation. - One memory on all: Key_tee lent her keyboard to Cheb Samir's drummer, and probably after a while it was low on battery or i dont know what else, - anyway it stood there right on the drums, and each 2/3 minutes it made a strange sound-bell, like a short alarm, - initially the guy tried to switch it off, but with no luck, - so, for the whole show this toy keyboard continued to mark that sound which somehow always matched perfectly with the music.. funnier to see than explaing ;-)

18-Jan-2007 11:06 AM - Fitness Forever - Marmalade Gomelsky (9tx cdr, 28'27" - self-prod. 2006) - Unexpected marvellous debut, i cross into Fitness Forever's myspace page randomly, - and as first heard i got that track entitled Bacharach, perfect in its trumpets play, french 'hip' sound purity and 60's go-go music feeling full of ye-ye drumming. And, rarely i'm into italian lyrics, so, how bizzarre i liked it and found it funny too. Then a couple of days later i was in a car with some friends of mine and new guy, who wanted us to listen to His Music, and He gave us a cd.. and - that's fate my dear! because it was right Fitness Forever's singer/song-writer/multi-instrumentalist Carlos Valderrama (also active with crazy Valderrama 5 and next-big-thing The Goonies). - Yes, that's fate. Anyway, Marmelade Gomelsky is a tribute to the international vagabond Giorgio Gomelsky - of Marmalade rec. - Focusing on the cdr, it comes out as a promo, - essential and spartan in its absence of packaging (except done for the lovely little girl coming out of a marmalade jar), - and, more important than all, - the cdr is for free - You just have to email to Carlos specifing WHY He should send it to You. - Have a try: drop Him a line here. In detail: just a few songs are actually in italian, and the whole album surprises is in alternating moods à la Motorpsycho (I didn't know You knew me) with Pizzicato Five' shameless melodic catchy attitude (Brazil, Bacharach), jinge-jangle Creation rec guitars (Pioppaino People) or the sensibilty of Little Sixteen, Mirrors. - Boy/girl vocals fused together, - the lyrics go from funny to depressing (someones would say 'inspiring'). Absolutely an excellent out-going album, - it's a shame it's not supported by any record label yet, such it's well produced. At myspace there are some new demos, paying an explicit tribute to italian b-cinema of 70s. Worthy Your attention. [see below for a couple of mp3s] // Fitness Forever - Marmalade Gomelsky (9tx cdr, 28'27" - self-prod. 2006) - Inatteso meraviglioso debutto, - sono capitato per caso nella pagina myspace dei Fitness Forever, e come primo pezzo mi è stato sbattuto in faccia Bacharach, perfetto nel suo gioco di trombe, purezza hip francese del suono e sentimento go-go dei 60s con dell'ottimo drumming stile ye-ye. E raramente sono per il cantato in italiano, - invece qui mi è piaciuto molto. Quindi un paio di giorni dopo mi sono ritrovato in macchina con degli amici e un nuovo ragazzo, che ci ha voluto far metter sù un disco con la Sua musica, eh - ecco il destino! trattavasi proprio di mr. Fitness Forever, in arte Carlos Valderrama (anche attivo con i folli Valderrama 5 e i next-big-thing The Goonies), polistrumentista, cantante e autore dei pezzi. Sì, era destino. Cmq, - tornando all'album, Marmelade Gomelsky è un trubuto al 'vagabondo internazionale' Giorgio Gomelsky della fu-etichetta Marmalade rec. - In particolare, il cdr esce come un promo autoprodotto, - essenziale e spartano nella sua assenza di confezione (eccetto fatto per l'amabile ragazzina che sbuca fuori da un barattolo di marmellata appunto), - e più importante di ogni altra cosa, il cd è gratuito, - dovete solo scrivere a Carlos specificando PERCHE' Ve lo dovrebbe spedire, - quindi scrivetegli. Nel dettaglio: solo un paio di canzoni sono in realtà in italiano, e l'intero album sorprende nell'alternare umori alla Motorpsycho (I didn't know You knew me) con l'accattivante attitudine spasmodicamente melodica dei Pizzicato Five (Brazil, Bacharach) e con chitarre jingle-jangle stile Creation rec (Pioppaino People) oltre che nella sensibilità di Little Sixteen, Mirrors. - Boy/girl fusi alla voce, - i testi altalenano dal divertente al depresso (più che 'depresso', direi 'ispirante'. Assolutamente un eccellente album estroverso, - è una vergogna che non sia ancora supportato da nessuna etichetta, tanto è ben prodotto. - Last but not least, su myspace ci sono poi nuovi demo che pagano pegno esplicito al cinema di serie b dei 70.

Verso le 18 presso il negozio di dischi e tempio HellNation (v. nomentana, 113) i romani (the) Intellectuals hanno sciorinato 15min di showcase, - entrata libera, birra, vino, patatine e salatini - tutto a presentare il nuovo album Invisible is the Best, uscito in cd su Dead Beat e in vinile su Hate rec. Benchè 'drum_girl' si sia dimenticata un pezzo della sua identità, cioè di montare un piatto alla batteria, il breve live è stato ottimo, - garage e odore di 60s.. non ho potuto non comprarmi l'album.. stasera suonano insieme a Cheb Samir & the Black Souls of Leviathan, duo punk blues francese, eccellenti anche Loro, - tutto al sinister noise, v. dei magazzini generali 4b, ingr. 5€.. spero di esserci, spero anche Voi. // The Intellectuals are a trio stinking garage and 60s, from rome, that perfectly fit into fuzzy and rancid. A few hours ago, i saw Their live showcase in one of few valid record stores in rome, that is HellNation, to present Their new full-lenght album entitled Invisible is the Best, cd released by Dead Beat and on vynil by Hate Records. Tonite They'll share a gig with french punk blues Cheb Samir & the Black Souls of Leviathan - hopefully i'll be there.

11-Jan-2007 5:04 PM - Lactis Fever - Lactis Fever (cdR ep, 4tx - Peteran rec 'o6) - Ascoltando questo giovane gruppo di indiscusso talento, provenienti da Como, mi vengono in mente i We are Scientists, o almeno il primo effetto positivo che mi fecero, per quel concetto che la Musica è una corsa power-pop con gusto retro, e quindi non riuscite a stare fermi, perchè le tracce sono talmente ritmate e accattivanti che anzi, è strano che ancora non abbiano una produzione più elevata dietro. Reset come Run sono due ottimi single pronti per conquistare tv musicali e radio, con ottimo cantato e riff, una sezione ritmica ballabile e adrenalina a iosa. - Chitarr-ocentrici, giovani, deliberatamente pronti per un full-lenght e una fetta di successo (in italia? maddai..). In un'ideale scena indie italiana, li accosterei ai Drink to Me [leggi komarecensione] con meno sperimentalismi. At a first listen, my mind goes to We are Scientists, or at least at that first positive feeling i had with Them, - because of that kind of concept about Music meant as a fast power-pop escape, with a retro taste, - so it's enthralling, - You cannot ignore these catchy and rythmed tracks, - and i wonder why They don't have a bigger production yet. Reset, as well, Run, are two excellent hit singles, ready to go and win music media, strong with good vocals and riffs, a danceable rythm section and adrenaline galore. - Guitar-centric, young, firmly ready for a full-lenght worthy a slice of success (hard try in italy.. go abroad!).. Ora. Mi sorge una, forse anche due questioni: parte degli 'addetti ai lavori' che visitano questo sito, non legge nemmeno una delle news in oggetto, nemmeno una recensione. NIENTE. Perchè altrimenti non mi metterebbe mai in rubrica. Va lì e cerca l'email per usare komakino come una bacheca degli annunci. E non è la prima volta. OPPURE SONO IO? Forse non me ne sono accorto e komakino è diventato un allegato di TV sorrisi&canzoni? Forse questo è solo un incubo? Forse sono andato di nuovo a lavoro in ciabatte?

09-Jan-2007 3:10 PM - Xmary - A Tavola Con Il Principe (24tx cdr, 37'54" - behere rec 'o5) - Specificano di non essere un gruppo demenziale, ma che sono proprio scemi. E potrebbe anche essere così, ma ci mettono gusto. 24 tracce, sorta di best-of dei loro demo dal 95 al 2002 che fanno calderone di punkrock e pop, bossanova, marcette, funky, grind, grunge, reggae, - c'è di tutto un rock, - un ruffiano occhietto continuo ai palchi delle varie feste della birra, dei centri sociali, e primomaggio a pza san giovanni a roma, dove sicuramente qualche adolescente che si è perso i Prozac+ 5-10 anni fa si esalterebbe. Gli Xmary sanno suonare comunque, hanno testi da storie di banchi di scuola media, possono anche divertire quando sfottono al meglio il disagio del ggiovane, la sessualità, il papa, la droga, i generi musicali e tutto il resto, - sinceramente uno slabbrato fenomeno da sagra paesana.

Ma bisogna andare sino in Cina per avere un pò di Musica decente nella pubblicità? No, i pubblicitari nostrani preferiscono usare la stessa canzone dei Gorillaz per 7 spot diversi.. - Complimenti ai Jennifer Gentle!! 04-Jan-2007 1:16 PM - Beh, l'unica cosa buona (a parte i soldi agli eredi Henson e associati al nome) nel fatto che la Disney abbia acquisito nel 2004 i diritti del Muppet Show, è che a Natale anche in italia finalmente è uscito un cofanetto di 3 dvd (in offerta!) che riprende 16 episodi su 24 della prima stagione trasmessa negli anni 70 (14 su 24 perchè solo quelli erano stati doppiati, e - tristezza - non sono stati inclusi gli altri 10, nemmeno a sottotitolarli), più extra, e che tale cofanetto mi è stato regalato (oh bittersweet...).. assolutamente un must per nostalgici, o senza facezie melodrammatiche, per Chi è capace di amare l'ilarità di tanta bellezza Muppettiana.. non è solo per bambini, almeno probabile non per quelli svezzati da internet e cartoons japponesi di oggi, - e certo, un pò fuori dal tempo visti gli ospiti di ogni episodio che ora sono morti o nel dimenticatoio americano o a tale si approssimano (di sicuro in questi episodi).. ciò non toglie sia un gioiellino divertentissimo, a cominciare da Lydia, the Tattooed Lady, canzoncina poi cantata alla cerimonia funebre di Jim Henson..

'o6) - I wonder why on the coverart there's written this cd is an ep, seen it's 9 tracks and more than 30min long.. btw, - Karin are from arounds of Parma, italy, and play some ultra catchy indie pop, - even too much well recorded for being released on a cdr: They'd deserve a real - more official - optic support. Maybe sometimes too much on the cloying/elegy side of melody perfection (i.e. Fancee), anyway Karin are able to embrace best moods of Pinback, poppier Bright Eyes' lyrism, in a continuous fresh and original twee-pop song-writing (Eat Your Supper and Go To Bed Early, Lakeland Terrier Club), as well as unexpected seductive crescendo (Untitled) and lo-fi escapes (Happy Song). Giovanni Ferrari - bass/loops, Francesco Rabaglia - guitar/vocals/rhodes, Filippo Alinovi - drums, - use well all of rules of emotive Music, like tasty guitar riffs, dramatic moody lyrics, no hints of sonic kink - all intense tradmarks own of loosers' delight, making of Karin something clean, accessible and ready for more.. [see below for an mp3] // Karin - I've Tried With Sport But It's Not My Cup Of Tea Ep (9tx cd, 35'31" - self-prod. 'o6) - Mi chiedo perchè ci sia scritto in copertina che si tratta di un ep quando sono ben 9 tracce e dura + di mezzora.. whoknows.. cmq, i Karin sono dei dintorni di Parma, e suonano dell'accattivante indie pop, registrato anche troppo bene per meritarsi solo un cdr invece di un supporto ottico più ufficiale. - Forse la pecca è il lato troppo elegiaco/stucchevole della loro perfezione melodica (ad es. Fancee), comunque i Karin sono capaci di abbracciare i miglior umori di Pinback, le parti più pop del lirismo di Bright Eyes, in un continuo song-writing originale e fresco (Eat Your Supper and Go To Bed Early, Lakeland Terrier Club), oltre ad un inaspettato seduttivo crescendo (Untitled) e fughe lo-fi (Happy Song). Giovanni Ferrari - bass/loops, Francesco Rabaglia - guitar/vocals/rhodes, Filippo Alinovi - drums, usano bene tutte le regole della Musica emotiva, come gustosi riff di chitarra, liriche dall'umore drammatico, - nessun accenno di facezie soniche, - tutti marchi di fabbrica proprie del piacere dei looser, - tutto a rendere i Karin qualcosa di pulito, accessibile, e pronto per proporre ancora molto di più.

04-Jan-2007 11:32 AM - Hutchinson - Sitespecific for Orange Squirrel (4+4tx 2cd, 47'19" - Wallace rec 'o6) - If i saw on some music channel a video of Hutchinson featuring people with long haired sideburns and slacks, - i'd stay without flinching. Sitespecific for Orange Squirrel is like a 8 tracks long soundtrack for a usa 70s detective story, melting a great play of synths with classic guitars/bass formula, in perfect digressive style, long sessions of funky labyrinths, hyperactive, rich of mature percussions. - An instrumental stainless excercise on style, - personally i think it only lacks in personality, being so similar to a mere tribute to a cinematographic music genre than to a specific Band. [see below for an mp3] // Hutchinson - Sitespecific for Orange Squirrel (4+4tx 2cd, 47'19" - Wallace rec 'o6) - Se vedessi su qlc canale tv musicale un video degli Hutchinson dove figurano attori con basettoni e pantaloni a zampa di elefante, non batterei ciglio. Sitespecific for Orange Squirrel è come una lunga colonna sonora di otto pezzi per un poliziesco americano anni 70, che mischia un gran gioco di synth con la classica formula chitarra/basso, in perfetto stile digressivo, su lunghe sessioni di labirinti funky, iperattivi, - ricchi di percussioni mature. Un esercizio di stile senza macchia, strumentale, - personalmente credo manchi solo di personalità, essendo tanto simile ad un mero tributo ad un genere musicale cinematografico più che ad una Band in sè.
