Shaun Tan is a native australian from Perth, - His amazing opus The Arrival is a hand-drawn (photorealistic) graphic novel about the immigrant experience of a family man, leaving His family for a new land, looking for a better fortune.
The reader, just after a couple of pages, falls into a surreal world and its weird creatures, a wordless story-line, - although at the same time each image speaks louder than words through its details, - total eloquence, - it's like watching the several frames of an old silent movie, hypangogic and fairy-tale.
No wonder it took Shaun Tan four years the making of this book.
I got it for my birthday, - it really made my day, - it's full of poetry and every new look to its pages is a vehicle of new surprise and enthusiasm.
