Children of a Lesser God, a God from a pantheon called 4AD, with relatives in The Boo Radleys of Creation rec, actually, and maybe they sit to the same table with The Depreciation Guild for breakfast.
Differently, notwithstanding the above mentioned nostalgic european feeling, Little Black Dress are from Dallas, USA, a band whose two core members are Toby Pipes (formerly Deep Blue Something) and Nolan Thies, who release their debut disc Snow in June via Exploding Plastic (sub-label for Idol rec), a collection of twelve pieces balancing ecstatic parenthesis of guitar-driven tunes (Snow In June, End Film or the amazing guitar refrain of Your Side), some more radio-friendly indiepop melodies (Robin, Took It, Queen) and touching slow ballads (Mute, Out of View).
My favorite track here is for sure Your Side: alone itself is able to make the whole album worthy, such it's blissful, gently bitter, pacific and with a genuine 80s after-taste. Revivalist with success, whispered and romantic, I love it. A perfect single. It's just a shame it's only 2'37''.
Anyway, that's what's good with Little Black Dress: they have a special skill to write unexpected 80's-like chorus and refrains, like also with Took It, End Film and Robin - You feel like You whistled their theme since always.
However, the whole track-list is doubtless agreeable and honest, but, frankly and personally, this album is still missing that something to be particular and shocking like the view of snow in June.
