'A fore-edge painting is where the page block is fanned and an image applied to the stepped surface. If the page edges are themselves gilded or marbled, this results in the image disappearing when the book is relaxed. When refanned, the painting magically re-appears.'
- Actually i don't even know yet how to call it in italian, - so, as if i could know that in english!
Btw, when i was at primary school, i remember i loved to write secret messages like school sucks or other stupid drawings on my books, - but, for sure i wasn't able to create some priceless hidden jewels as the ones by Martin Frost, shown at foredgefrost.co.uk, - it's really a kind of magic showing up from nothing: 'The magic transformation of a bright gilded book-edge into an intricate little painting, and then see it fade back into the gold again, never fails to delight'.

not yet, probably nobody cares, or nobody cared enough to tell something. Also: nobody reads komakino.
