I know these guys, Jarman. They're friends of mine.
But you know, I wouldn't review their record if I didn't think it's worth. So, here we are.
From Rome, - four piece, debut record, free/name-your-price download, - a four-track sound score for your daily fight with life, along an instrumental, post-hardcore current, with recalls à la Unwound and Fugazi, where melancholy is the rule key for some emotional soundscapes, sometimes acid (the fuzzy distorted bass attack of Kubrick in September), alternating mid-tempo to some faster rides (The Saint who taught mussels being wiser), all framed by the phrasing of two electric guitars and dense bass lines.
An interaction of cathartic melodies, slow swirling six-string riffs and rich dynamics, actually, - too carefully studied to be just shared as an internet release.
The line-up sees some well known figures of Rome's underground (no)scene: Massimo Cisternino of hc/screamo Desperate Living, who moved from guitar at the drum kit this time, - Alessia Casonato, bassist of The Shadow Line, Federico Vignali, originally bass player for Noisebox and Last Green Field, and Alessandro Giordani.
Like for most instrumental bands, and once again here, I just can say I'm ready to bet they might reach a higher top if only they found a 'voice': that said, it's a very good debut, a sincere pathos portrait, also multicolour, doubtless charming.
Last but not least, the beautiful front cover painting is by Luca Zarattini of Modotti.

Da Roma, in quattro, release di debutto, download gratuito o 'name your price', - una partitura sonora a quattro binari per la vostra lotta quotidiana con la vita, lungo una corrente strumentale e post-hardcore, con richiami à la Unwound and Fugazi, dove la malinconia è la chiave di volta per una serie di fughe sonore emozionali, a volte acide (l'attacco di basso fuzz e distorto di Kubrick in September), alternando mid-tempo a cavalcate più veloci (The Saint who taught mussels being wiser), il tutto incorniciato dai fraseggi di due chitarre elettriche e corpose linee di basso.
Un'interazione di melodie catartiche, lento turbinanti riff delle sei corde e ricche dinamiche, - davvero troppo ben studiato il tutto per esser giusto condiviso su internet.
La line-up vede alcune figure ben note della (non)scena capitolina: Massimo Cisternino degli hc/screamo Desperate Living, che passa dalla guitar al drum-kit, - Alessia Casonato, già bassista degli Shadow Line, - Federico Vignali, originariamente bassista dei Noisebox e Last Green Field, - Alessandro Giordani.
Come per la maggior parte dei gruppi di musica strumentale, anche qui, sarei pronto a scommettere che raggiungerebbero una vetta più alta se solo trovassero la voce: detto ciò, è un discreto debutto, dal pathos sincero e multicolore, senza dubbio affascinante.
E andrebbe stampato già solo per l'ottima copertina, dipinto di Luca Zarattini dei Modotti.
